Bongaigaon: In Abhayapuri, a town in Bongaigaon district, a distressing incident unfolded where a lender compelled a borrower to sell his kidney to settle a loan.
The lender, known as Wasir Ahmed alias Dhano, is currently under police custody for his involvement illegal activity. About a year ago, Khalil Sheikh, a resident of Abhayapuri Tengnamari, borrowed Rs. 50,000 from Wasir Ahmed to cover medical expenses for his wife. However, Khalil, who works as an e-rickshaw driver, struggled to repay the loan on time.

As time passed, the amount Khalil owed to Wasir Ahmed kept increasing, reaching up to Rs. 5 lakhs.
‘Taking advantage of Khalil’s vulnerability, Wasir Ahmed suggested a horrifying solution – to sell his kidney to clear the debt.
‘I was feeling trapped and under immense pressure, agreed to this drastic measure.
Subsequently, I traveled to Kolkata, West Bengal, where I underwent the surgery to remove my kidney and received payment for it. then I handed over the money to Wasir Ahmed’, Khalil said to media.
Distressed by the ordeal and seeking justice, Khalil approached the Abhayapuri police and filed a complaint against Wasir Ahmed. Following an investigation, the police arrested Wasir Ahmed on February 17, and he has been placed in judicial custody since then.
