Riyan Parag Leads RR to Victory, But CSK Fans Fill Guwahati Stadium

Guwahati: Rajasthan Royals (RR) chose Guwahati as their second home ground, but during their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, the stadium was filled mostly with CSK fans. Even though RR won under the leadership of local boy Riyan Parag, the support for the home team was very low.

Around 90 percent of the crowd wore yellow jerseys, making it feel like a CSK home game. This was different from other RR matches in Guwahati, where more fans usually wear pink jerseys to support RR.

On social media, many people said that the reason for this was Mahendra Singh Dhoni. His huge fan following brought thousands of CSK supporters to the stadium. But others questioned why Guwahati fans did not support Riyan Parag, who is from Assam and is now leading RR.

Some cricket fans warned that if people do not support local players in their own city, it could hurt the future of Assam’s cricket. “For the first time, a player from Assam has reached international cricket. If we don’t support him now, it will not be good for Assam’s cricket future,” said a local fan.

RR will need to work harder to connect with Guwahati’s fans, but one thing is clear—CSK and Dhoni’s popularity in Assam remains strong, making it difficult for RR to truly call Guwahati their second home.
