ONGC Issues Clarification After Gas Leak at Rudrasagar Well, Assures Public Safety

Guwahati: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has issued an official clarification following a gas leak incident at Well No. RDS-147 in its Rudrasagar Field, located in the Bhatiapar Barichuk area of Sivasagar district.

According to the statement, gushes of gas were observed during a scheduled servicing operation at the well on Thursday afternoon. ONGC immediately activated its standard safety protocols and secured the site.

“Upon detection, ONGC promptly secured the area and deployed an emergency response team led by the Asset Manager,” the statement read. “There was no fire or injury reported, and the situation is now fully under control.”

The company also informed that reinforcement teams and technical experts are on-site to ensure the safe and swift normalization of operations. ONGC has launched a detailed internal investigation to determine the cause of the leak.

“Ensuring the safety of our personnel and surrounding communities is our highest priority,” ONGC stated. “We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of operational safety, environmental protection, and transparency.”

The incident occurred during pipeline installation work at the well. While the sudden gas release triggered panic in nearby areas, ONGC’s quick response has helped avoid any untoward consequences.

The corporation has urged the public not to panic and assured that all necessary safety and containment measures are being enforced. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication regarding developments.
