Guwahati: Guwahati Mayor Mrigen Sarania announced on Friday that no parking fees will be collected from two-wheelers and three-wheelers parked in designated spots in the city from June 1. However, four-wheelers will still have to pay.

The announcement was made at a press briefing at the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) office in Uzan Bazar.

In a major move to support small businesses, the number of trade licence categories under GMC has been reduced from 7,000 to 120. Now, traders with multiple businesses will need only one licence instead of separate licences for each.

Also, the renewal fee for small traders has been reduced from ₹1,750 to ₹1,000. But those with an annual income below ₹5 lakh will still have to pay ₹1,750.

New licence fees based on annual income:

  • Below ₹5 lakh – ₹1,750
  • ₹5–10 lakh – ₹2,700
  • ₹10–20 lakh – ₹4,750
  • Above ₹20 lakh – ₹8,650

Women and indigenous vendors operating in GMC lessee markets will be exempted from all fees. They will be given ID cards for verification.

The mayor said these changes are aimed at easing the burden on small traders and supporting local communities.
