Bongaigaon College Will Be Upgraded to University

Bongaigaon : Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth ₹555 crore in Bongaigaon district. The event took place on Thursday and was attended by various dignitaries, including Panchayat & Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass and Members of Legislative Assembly.

In a notable announcement, CM Dr. Sarma revealed plans to upgrade the status of Bongaigaon College to that of a university.

The inaugurated projects included a ₹69 crore bridge over river Aie on the Borghola-Kirtanpara road, an ecopark and connected wetland development project valued at ₹15.69 crore, and statues of Mahabir Chilarai and Mahabir Lachit Borphukan with costs of ₹14 lakh and ₹8 lakh, respectively. Additionally, a Conference Hall cum Convention Centre with an approximate cost of ₹17.94 crore was also inaugurated.

Furthermore, foundation stones were laid for essential projects, such as the ₹417 crore development and improvement of the Jogigopha to Sahid Bedi road under the Asom Mala scheme, a mini stadium at Barshangaon with an allocation of ₹11.99 crore, and the ₹6.20 crore infrastructure development of Sri Raghunath Temple at Srijangram.

Addressing the public during the event, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma expressed optimism that these 13 projects would contribute significantly to the progress and aspirations of Bongaigaon’s residents. He highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming Assam into a leading state and revealed that around ₹693 crore was allotted to the district as part of a ₹15,000 crore project undertaken across the State.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the special cultural and historical significance of Bongaigaon district, emphasizing its crucial contribution to the spiritual environment of the State. He further emphasized that the road development projects would provide impetus to the district’s economic growth.

The various projects are set to boost infrastructure, education, and economic development in Bongaigaon, fulfilling the aspirations of its residents.
