Guwahati: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Guwahati celebrated 150 years of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) by organizing a marathon titled ‘Run for Mausam’. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of meteorology in disaster management, agriculture, aviation, and public safety.
Head of RMC Guwahati, K. N. Mohan, flagged off the marathon, which began at the RMC premises and covered key routes in the city. Weather officials, students, and enthusiasts participated in the event.
In the Men’s category, Mintu Sharma, Raja Shaw, and Sidharth Kumar Jha secured the first, second, and third positions, respectively. In the Women’s category, Rani Devi claimed first place, followed by Minakshi Nath and Dharitri Saikia.
The event also included a felicitation ceremony for retired RMC officials and an art competition for school children. The celebration highlighted IMD’s role in delivering accurate weather forecasts, saving lives, and supporting economic growth over 150 years.
