Guwahati: Senior IPS officer Harmeet Singh will take over as the Acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, following the deputation of incumbent DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh to his new role as Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
A government notification issued on Monday confirmed the decision, stating that Harmeet Singh will hold the position until a regular appointment is made or until further orders. Singh, who currently serves as Director General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards, will manage his existing responsibilities along with his new role as acting DGP.
In addition to this, Harmeet Singh also holds key positions, including Special Director General of Police (HQ), Spl. DGP-cum-Director, F&ES, and Spl. Director General of Police (Border).
Outgoing DGP G.P. Singh has been relieved of his duties in Assam and will now serve as the Director General of CRPF, as per the Ministry of Home Affairs’ appointment. Singh’s tenure in the CRPF will continue until November 30, 2027, or until further orders.
