Guwahati: The Guwahati Press Club has expressed concern over the arrest of journalist Abdul Majan from Biswanath district, Assam. The journalist, who works for a news portal, reported a hit-and-run case on Sunday, allegedly involving the son of an influential politician.

On Monday night, police arrested Majan, claiming he made a false report.

In a statement, Guwahati Press Club President Susmita Goswami and General Secretary Sanjay Roy accused the police of harassing journalists in Assam. They alleged that the police have been mentally and physically targeting reporters for several years.

The press club called for an end to such actions and urged the authorities to respect press freedom and support the rights of journalists in the state.
