Governor of Meghalaya Inaugurates National Conclave on Teacher Education at NEHU

Shillong: Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar inaugurated the National Conclave on Teacher Education at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. The two-day event, organized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in collaboration with NEHU, focuses on improving teacher education under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

In his speech, the Governor highlighted the crucial role of teachers in nation-building and stressed the need for innovation in teacher training. He praised NCTE’s initiatives like the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST), and the National Mission for Mentoring (NMM). He also emphasized that children between 4 to 14 years are most receptive to learning, urging teachers to focus on their overall development.

The conclave covers eastern and northeastern states and is part of a four-part national series to strengthen teacher education. Experts, policymakers, and academicians are discussing policy implementation, professional growth, and regional challenges.

The Governor praised NEHU’s role in academic excellence and expressed confidence that the discussions would help build a stronger teacher education system in India. Senior government officials, educationists, school principals, and university faculty attended the event.
