Guwahati: Upasa Phukan, the daughter of former Assam Home Minister late Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, passed away on Sunday morning.
She fell from a two-story building at her home in Kharghuli, Guwahati. The incident happened around 7:55 AM.
Upasa Phukan was 38 years old. She was the only child of Bhrigu Kumar Phukan. He was a key leader of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and a signatory of the 1985 Assam Accord. He passed away on March 20, 2006.
The reason behind her fall is not clear. Police are investigating whether it was an accident or suicide.
Her body was taken to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for a postmortem examination.
