Earth Day Celebrated at RMC, Guwahati

Guwahati: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, celebrated Earth Day with great enthusiasm. This year’s theme was “Our Power, Our Planet – Renewable Energy.”

Tana Tage, Director of the Centre for Earth Sciences & Himalayan Studies (CES&HS), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, was the Chief Guest. He thanked RMC Guwahati for its valuable support in weather and climate services, especially in the Northeast. He said Arunachal Pradesh has benefited a lot from the collaboration with RMC, including better weather stations and upcoming Doppler Weather Radars.

K.N. Mohan, Head of RMC Guwahati, welcomed the guests and explained the importance of renewable energy to students. Dr. Sanjay O’Neill Shaw, Scientist-F, encouraged everyone to act now for a cleaner and stronger planet. Saiful Haque, a teacher from Shyam Bhumi High School, thanked RMC for inviting the students. Scientist Sunit Das spoke about climate change and the need for clean energy, while Dr. Gayatry Kalita interacted with students about the importance of Earth Day.

The event also included sapling plantation and a human chain by RMC officials, CES&HS staff, and students to spread the message of unity in saving the Earth.

The programme was anchored by Meteorologist Priyanka Singh.
