Biswanath: The Council for Teacher Education Foundation (CTEF-Assam) has expanded its ‘Mission Collaboration’ programme to promote the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and introduce modern teaching methods in higher education institutions across Assam.
The second phase of the programme was launched on October 16 in Biswanath district in collaboration with Biswanath College of Teacher Education, Kalabari College and Chaiduar College. The first phase was launched on September 29 at Tezpur College in Sonitpur district.
The programme aims to help teachers and students understand modern teaching methods and improve the learning process in line with the requirements of 21st-century education.
During the programme, CTEF-Assam Chairman, along with Dr Deepak L Waikar, a resource person from Singapore, conducted sessions on the importance of implementing NEP 2020. Dr Waikar spoke about Project-Based Learning (PBL), a teaching method that encourages students to learn through practical activities and real-life problems rather than depending only on memorisation.
Through this approach, students work on meaningful projects over a period of time, helping them develop a better understanding of concepts, problem-solving abilities and other important skills.
Teachers and students at the participating institutions benefited from the sessions and gained an understanding of how Project-Based Learning can be used in classrooms.
Prof Nilima Bhagabati, a national focus member on NEP 2020 and former chairperson of the Eastern Regional Committee of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), welcomed the participating institutions. She highlighted the importance of NEP 2020 and stressed the need for effective implementation of the policy to improve the education sector.
She also emphasised that teachers need to adapt their teaching methods to meet the learning needs of students in the 21st century, both inside and outside the classroom.
Established in 1985, CTEF is a national professional organisation working for the development of teachers in school, higher and teacher education. CTEF-Assam has been providing training, guidance and counselling services since 2000. It also works to support parents through parental guidance and parenting skills programmes, including initiatives for families of primary-level students.
CTEF-Assam has announced that the next phase of ‘Mission Collaboration’ will begin soon in four more districts of Assam.
