CM Inaugurates Lovlina Boxing Academy in North Guwahati

Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Lovlina Boxing Academy at Barchandra in North Guwahati on June 5. The academy has been set up by Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain to train young boxers, especially from rural areas.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister praised Lovlina’s journey from Barpathar in Golaghat to the Tokyo Olympics and her participation in the Paris Olympics 2024. He said her success in boxing has inspired many youth in Assam.

Dr. Sarma said the academy is built on land bought by Lovlina in 2021 and developed with limited funds. It can train up to 100 athletes.

The Chief Minister added that boxing has strong potential in Assam, and the state has already produced many good boxers. He urged local people to support the academy and its trainees.

The event was attended by Sports Minister Nandita Gorlosa, MLA Diganta Kalita, DGP Harmeet Singh, DIG Indrani Baruah, and other top officials and sports leaders, including Lovlina Borgohain herself.
