Guwahati : During a press conference in Guwahati, Dr. Chakko Korula Jacob, a renowned nephrologist, expressed optimism about the future of kidney transplantation in India. The press meet, discussing the past, present, and future of kidney transplants in India, was held at Marwari Hospitals.

Dr. Jacob, a former head of the Nephrology department at CMC, Vellore, highlighted the bright prospects of kidney transplants in India. He emphasized that advancements in technology would make transplants easier in the near future.

When asked about the lifespan after kidney transplantation, Dr. Jacob explained that it varies from person to person.

Regarding the impact of alcohol and cigarettes on the kidneys, he clarified that alcohol doesn’t, but cigarettes can adversely affect kidney health.

Notably, Marwari Hospitals operates a dedicated 12-bed dialysis unit, offering treatment to patients with kidney failure or disease. They also provide free dialysis for the extremely poor and offer affordable rates for others.
