Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival 2024: A Grand Celebration of Northeast Indian Cinema

Guwahati – The Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) is back with its much-awaited 9th edition, set to captivate film enthusiasts from December 5th to 8th, 2024, at Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio, Kahilipara, Guwahati. At a press event today, Festival Director Tanushree Hazarika unveiled this year’s impressive lineup, promising a blend of feature films, documentaries, and short films that celebrate the cinematic excellence of Northeast India and beyond.

The festival received over 220 film entries and will showcase selected works in both competitive and non-competitive categories. “BVFF is more than a festival; it’s a platform for storytelling that inspires and connects,” said Hazarika. “Our aim is to highlight the rich culture of the Northeast and build its reputation as a hub for global filmmaking.”

Creative Director Pallavi Barua shared her excitement, saying, “This year’s films promise to entertain, provoke thought, and spark creativity. BVFF connects audiences and filmmakers, fostering meaningful discussions through cinema.”

The festival boasts an esteemed panel of jurors:
Documentary & Short Films Jury:

  • Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri – Academic, Film Critic, Professor, Gauhati University
  • Murtaza Ali Khan – Film Critic and Journalist
  • Kalpana Nair – IMDb India

Feature Films Jury:

  • Nitin Baid – Film Editor (Masaan, Gully Boy, Raazi)
  • Anvita Dutt – Director (Bulbbul, Qala)
  • Abhishek Chaubey – Director (Udta Punjab, Sonchiriya)
  • Shreya Dev Dube – Cinematographer (A Suitable Boy, Thar)
  • Aishwarya Lekshmi – Actor (Ponniyin Selvan, Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela)

Industry stalwarts Tigmanshu Dhulia (Paan Singh Tomar) and Sandeep Modi (The Night Manager) will also attend, sharing their insights through masterclasses and discussions.

The festival will feature special screenings of:

  • Mithya (Kannada) by Sumanth Bhat
  • Zende: The Supercop by Tushar Haware
  • Chashma by Nitin Baid
  • Angammal (Tamil) by Vipin Radhakrishnan
  • Boong by Lakshmipriya Devi

Samujjal Kashyap, Technical Director, emphasized the festival’s commitment to providing a high-quality viewing experience with advanced visuals, immersive sound, and expert curation.
