Guwahati: The BJP Assam Pradesh has strongly condemned the incident in Golaghat where alleged Congress workers hurled water bottles at the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday. Calling the act a “frustrated outburst” and an “onslaught on democracy,” the BJP launched a sharp attack on the Congress party.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters on Tuesday, BJP State General Secretary Rituparna Baruah said, “The Congress, unable to match the BJP government’s politics of development and good governance, is now resorting to Naxalite-like behaviour.”

Baruah further said that such an undemocratic act by the Congress even while in opposition shows their real character. “If this is how they behave now, one can imagine the chaos if they ever return to power,” he added.

The press conference was also attended by BJP Vice Presidents Manoj Baruah and Ratna Singh, and Chief Spokesperson Kishore Upadhyay.

In protest, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged sit-in demonstrations across all district and sub-divisional headquarters in Assam. Thousands of youth workers and senior BJP leaders participated in the protests.

In Guwahati, senior leaders including State Vice-Presidents Jury Sharma Bordoloi and Ratna Singh, State General Secretaries Diplu Ranjan Sarma and Rituparna Baruah, ASTC Vice-Chairman Pranabjyoti Lahkar, and BJYM President Rakesh Das took part in the protest organized by BJYM Guwahati City unit.
