Assam Sends Joha Rice to Vietnam

Guwahati: Assam has exported 1,000 kilograms of its famous Maniki Madhuri Joha rice to Vietnam for the first time. The rice was sent by Assam-based Jingshai Enterprise, and will be received by LeKha Distributor Co. Ltd., a leading company based in Ho Chi Minh City.

Agriculture Minister Atul Borah joined the flag-off ceremony virtually appreciated the move. He said that such steps would boost Assam’s agriculture exports and inspire youth to join the sector.

The Chief Exporting Officer of APEDA, Triranga B Borah, officially flagged off the consignment. He praised Jingshai for overcoming export challenges like color sorting and vacuum packaging to make this export possible.

Joha rice, known for its strong aroma, is a GI-tagged product of Assam.

Jingshai Enterprise’s Director Rajiv Medhi, who is also a farmer, expressed pride in sending Joha rice abroad. He thanked the Assam government for creating a business-friendly environment and said this success would motivate more farmers to look into exports.

Jingshai is also in talks with countries like Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, and some Middle Eastern nations for exporting other exotic agricultural products from Northeast India.

Officials from Air India, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Indigo Airlines, and APEDA also attended the ceremony.
