Imphal: In a major security operation near New Samtal village in Manipur’s Chandel district along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB), Assam Rifles troops came under heavy fire from suspected insurgents on May 14. The soldiers responded with controlled and precise action, resulting in the neutralisation of 10 armed individuals in camouflage uniforms.
Following the encounter, security forces launched a combing operation, leading to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition. Items seized include seven AK-47 rifles, one M4 rifle, one RPG launcher, four single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) guns, along with assorted ammunition and other war-like materials.
Initial findings indicate that the neutralised individuals were involved in cross-border insurgent activities. Verification of their identities is currently underway.
The area remains under close watch, with security forces maintaining heightened surveillance. Coordination continues with the civil administration and intelligence agencies to ensure peace and stability along the sensitive border zone
