Guwahati: Assam Police has issued a special advisory to schools across the state to protect children from cyber threats and misuse of social media.

The advisory comes amid growing concerns over the sharing of students’ photos and videos on platforms like Facebook, Instagram and YouTube during school events, competitions, educational tours and other activities.

Police have asked schools not to upload clear photos or videos that can easily identify children. Instead, schools have been advised to use group photos, back-side images, blurred faces or activity-based visuals to ensure student safety.

The advisory also strictly prohibits sharing personal details of students on social media. Schools have been told not to post full names, class details, ID cards, phone numbers, current locations or any other private information of children online.

Assam Police has also warned schools against posting real-time updates of school events, tours or camps on social media. Schools have been advised not to tag students, parents, homes or event locations in posts.

Schools have been asked to review all social media posts carefully before publishing them. Police said any content should be removed immediately if a child or parent raises objections.

The advisory also stresses the need to make teachers and school staff aware of cyber risks such as CSAM, AI morphing, grooming, sextortion, cyberbullying and digital privacy threats.

Assam Police has urged schools, teachers, parents and the public to follow the guidelines strictly to help prevent cyber crimes targeting children.
