The special leave days are November 6 and 8, 2024. These leaves are meant specifically for employees to spend time with their ageing parents or parents-in-law, not for personal activities. Employees without parents or parents-in-law are not eligible for this leave.
The CMO stated in a post on X, “Under the leadership of CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam government has declared special casual leave for state government employees on November 6 and 8, 2024, to spend time with their parents or parents-in-law.”
These special leaves can be combined with the Chhath Puja holiday on November 7, the second Saturday on November 9, and Sunday on November 10, allowing employees a longer period with their families.
Employees working in essential services can take this leave in a phased manner. This initiative was first announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his Independence Day speech in 2021, soon after he took office.
