Guwahati: The Rotary Club of Guwahati presented the prestigious Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cultural Award 2024-25 to celebrated Assamese folk singer Smti Snehalata Das. The event, held at the Press Club, marked the 13th death anniversary of the legendary Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, with Rotarians, media representatives, and the public attending.
The award, established in 2020-21, recognizes individuals who contribute significantly to Assamese culture. It includes a citation and special gifts representing the rich traditions of Assam. Previous awardees include Dhanada Pathak, Dr. Anil Saikia, the late Sobharam Hazarika, and Dr. Lakshahira Das.
Rotarians Pranab Kumar Choudhury, Dr. Gautam Sarma, Dr. Ranjana Bora, S.R. Saikia, Bandana Dutta, and PDG P.K. Kedia presented the awards to Smti Das. She expressed her gratitude and shared her journey in folk music, delighting the audience with a heartfelt performance.
Rotary Club President Pranab Kumar Choudhury opened the ceremony with a welcome address, while Rtn. S.R. Saikia gave the vote of thanks. Rtn. Dr. Sashanka Sekhar Dutta served as the anchor for the program.
