NEW DELHI: Assam Rifles in the Northeast is set to get a new Director General. Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, the former General Officer Commanding (GoC) of Nagaland and ex-Inspector General of Assam Rifles, has been appointed as the new Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR). He will be stationed in Shillong.
Lt Gen Lakhera, who was recently promoted from Major General to Lieutenant General, will replace the outgoing DGAR, Lt Gen PC Nair, who is retiring on July 31. Lt Gen Nair had previously praised Lakhera’s promotion as a significant achievement for Assam Rifles, highlighting his hard work and dedication.

Major General Lakhera assumed command of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) on January 5, 2022, and moved to army headquarters earlier this year upon his promotion. Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force under the Union Home Ministry, operates under the supervision of top Indian Army Generals.
