Guwahati1: With the Ambubachi Mela 2025 set to start on June 22, the Assam Tourism Department held a high-level meeting to review preparations at its Paltan Bazar office. The meeting was led by Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass and attended by senior officials and members of the Doloi Samaj from Kamakhya Temple.
Minister Dass announced that the Pravritti (start) of the Ambubachi Mela will take place at 2:56 PM on June 22, and the Nivritti (end) will be at 3:00 AM on June 26.
The Ambubachi Mela is one of the biggest spiritual gatherings in Northeast India, drawing lakhs of pilgrims from across India and abroad.
“This is not a fair or a festival—it is a spiritual occasion. We want people to experience it with respect and devotion,” said the minister.
To manage the large number of visitors, the government has set aside ₹4.55 crore for arrangements. Four large accommodation camps will be set up for pilgrims coming from outside Assam. More camps will be added if needed.
To make the visit easier for devotees, carpeted walkways and drinking water stations will be set up along the path to the temple. Visitors are asked not to wear shoes or sandals in the temple premises and are advised to use socks instead.
Leaders from the Doloi Samaj called the mela a “Maha Yog” and asked all pilgrims to maintain peace and cooperate with the administration.
In a major step towards equality, the government has clearly stated that no VIP or VVIP passes will be allowed. Everyone will follow the same process during the mela.
