AHPI NE 1 Chapter Hosts Session on GST Reforms in Healthcare at Marwari Hospitals

Guwahati: The Association of Healthcare Providers (India) – AHPI NE 1 Chapter organised a special session on GST Reforms in Healthcare at Marwari Hospitals, Guwahati. The event focused on how the new GST reforms can make healthcare more affordable and accessible for the common people.

The session featured CA Anshul Khemka, CFO of GNRC Hospitals, and R.S. Joshi, financial expert, as the main speakers. Also present were Mr. Rohit Upadhayay, General Secretary of AHPI NE 1 Chapter and Hospital Superintendent of Marwari Hospitals, along with Dr. J.P. Sarma, Director of Medical Services, doctors from various hospitals, AHPI members, and hospital staff.

Addressing the gathering, CA Anshul Khemka termed the reforms as “GST 2.0” and said it would benefit all sections of society. He noted that the reduction of GST on essential goods and healthcare items would ease the financial burden on households and patients alike.

  • Tax rates on some cancer medicines have been reduced from 12% to 5%, while several essential medicines are now at zero GST.
  • Diagnostic tests and basic medical equipment like thermometers and blood glucose monitoring systems are now more affordable.
  • Reduction in GST on surgical items such as gloves and equipment will further benefit hospitals and patients.

He emphasized that these reforms would not only improve affordability but also reduce hospital workload by making essential healthcare more accessible.

Financial expert R.S. Joshi also welcomed the reforms, calling them a positive step for both households and the healthcare sector. He stressed the importance of public awareness about taxation, highlighting the difference between direct taxes like income tax and indirect taxes like GST. “The government has really done a good thing by reducing GST in every aspect, and we should all appreciate it,” he added.
