Guwahati: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is gearing up for the upcoming panchayat and autonomous council elections. The elections, rescheduled in two phases, will proceed after the release of the revised voters’ list on December 30, 2024, with the election schedule expected in early January.

At a central executive meeting held at the AGP headquarters in Ambari, Guwahati, party leaders discussed strategies and planned the formation of election management committees. AGP President Atul Bora urged members to strengthen their digital membership drive and increase public engagement at the grassroots level.

The meeting also highlighted the celebration of Swahid Divas on December 10, which will take place at Bhawanipur in Barpeta district, the birthplace of Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the Assam Movement.

During the meeting, the party felicitated Diptimoyee Choudhury, the AGP-backed NDA candidate, for her decisive victory in the Bongaigaon by-election.

AGP leaders also reflected on their 40th foundation day celebrations held in October at Jeraigaon, Dibrugarh, which included tributes to the martyrs of the Assam Movement.
