Guwahati: Amid ongoing uncertainty and disagreements over seat-sharing within the opposition alliance, Raijor Dal on Wednesday released its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming elections. Notably, the party has not yet finalised the candidature of its president and lone MLA Akhil Gogoi.

The list was announced at a press conference held at the party’s Guwahati office by working president Bhasko D Saikia.

According to the list, Abdur Rashid Mondal will contest from the East Goalpara constituency. Ramen Chandra Borthakur, who had earlier sought the party ticket for Dispur, will now contest from Jalukbari. It may be mentioned that in the previous Assembly election, Borthakur had contested from Jalukbari on a Indian National Congress ticket against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma but was defeated.

In Lower Assam, Anjan Talukdar has been nominated from the Manas constituency, while Azizur Rahman will contest from the minority-dominated Dalgaon seat. Mehbub Muktar has been fielded from Dhing and Alok Nath from Tezpur.

The party has also announced candidates for several Upper Assam constituencies. Dulal Chandra Baruah will contest from Sissiborgaon, Rahul Chetry from Margherita, and Lakhyajyoti Gogoi from Digboi.

Additionally, Dr. Gyanshree Bora has been nominated from Mariani, while Ratan Dowar will contest from Bokakhat.

It may be noted that the Indian National Congress had released a list of 42 candidates a day earlier, in which the Margherita constituency was left for Raijor Dal. With Raijor Dal now announcing its own candidates, political observers are closely watching how the opposition alliance in Assam will finally shape up ahead of the elections.
