Guwahati: Eminent social worker and veteran politician Hemoprova Saikia was honoured with the Samajshree Award 2026 by Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia College.
The award was given in recognition of her long service to society and her important role in public life. The college authorities said she was selected unanimously for this year’s award.
The award was presented by Principal Dr. Bodhen Kumar Saikia in the presence of Vice Principal Dr. Mousumi Hazarika Barua, teachers, staff members and student representatives. The award included a memento, a jaapi, a handwritten citation on cloth, a bouquet and a pen.
Speaking at the event, the Principal said that everyone must work together for the overall development of the college and aim to make it one of the best institutions in Assam. He also said that students should focus not only on studies but also on sports and other activities.
After receiving the award, Dr. Hemoprova Saikia called for united efforts to build a corruption-free and progressive society.
The programme was part of the College Week celebrations, which began on February 10. The valedictory function and cultural programme were held on February 17. Prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions.
Senior journalist Pranoy Bordoloi spoke about the importance of NCC, NSS, sports and music in students’ lives. The cultural programme included dance and song performances by students, and popular singer Dixu also performed at the event.
