Guwahati: Starting from May 28, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will begin a month-long protest across Assam. They are protesting against the government’s decision to use English as the language for teaching math and science in regional schools. The students’ union has been requesting the Assam government to reconsider this decision for a long time.

The decision was made during a meeting of the State Executive of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on May 21. In a press statement, the AASU expressed concerns that this decision could lead to the disappearance of Assamese, Bodo, and other local languages.

The AASU’s protests will include a 10-hour hunger strike, a Mass Satyagraha in Guwahati, public awareness programs, and protests in every district headquarters across Assam.
