Guwahati: By Monday afternoon, Khanapara turned into a festival of sound, light and excitement as thousands of fans arrived to watch American singer-rapper Post Malone perform his first-ever concert in Assam. This show is also the first major event under the state government’s new concert tourism policy announced in May this year.

According to the state tourism department, more than 20,000 tickets were sold by Saturday, and the demand kept rising till the last hour. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said some tickets were sold for as high as Rs 60,000 each.

The huge venue at the Veterinary College Ground — normally used for political rallies, Independence Day and Republic Day events — was filled with energy. Young fans wearing neon lights, glitter makeup and stylish outfits waited in long queues at the entry gates, holding tickets and phones to catch every moment.
To manage the event smoothly, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration, Guwahati Police, GMC and several other departments launched a large and coordinated operation.

Inside the venue, giant LED screens, heavy sound systems and bright stage lights created the feel of an international concert. Food stalls selling Assamese snacks and global fast food lined the ground, giving the area a carnival-like atmosphere.

Officials said this was the biggest-ever concert in Guwahati, and it will help position the city as the new cultural capital of the Northeast.

As the sun set, the crowd shouted “Posty! Posty!” and the excitement reached its peak. Post Malone finally took the stage and delivered an electrifying performance that left fans thrilled and emotional.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called the concert historic and said such events will boost tourism and bring global attention to Guwahati, Kaziranga and other parts of Assam. He said the state government did not spend any money on the concert and more international artists will be invited in the coming years.

Post Malone arrived at Guwahati airport on Monday evening. A huge crowd gathered there to welcome him. Other members of his team visited the Kamakhya Temple and other places in the city earlier.

Across Guwahati, especially among the youth, the excitement for Post Malone’s visit created a lively and festive atmosphere. Fans came not only from Assam but also from other Northeast states and different parts of India.

With this concert, Guwahati has taken a major step towards becoming a global music and cultural destination.
