Geneva: The Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), a global media safety and rights organization, has expressed deep shock over the killing of another journalist in Pakistan’s Sindh province and called for swift justice and compensation for the victim’s family.
According to reports, Tufail Rind (40), a journalist working for a local Sindhi newspaper, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on October 8 in Mirpur Mathelo while he was on his way to drop his children to school. He died on the spot.
Rind, who also served as the Secretary of the Mathelo Press Club, is survived by his wife and four children.
This tragic incident comes just days after journalist Imtiaz Mir died from gunshot injuries in Karachi’s Malir area. Earlier this year, three other media workers — Syed Mohammed Shah, Abdul Latif, and AD Shar — were also killed in Pakistan.
PEC President Blaise Lempen said, “Tufail Rind is the 141st journalist killed worldwide in 2025. The Pakistani authorities must arrest the culprits and bring them to justice without delay. We urge Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to personally intervene in the case.”
He added that the PEC stands in solidarity with journalists in Pakistan and supports their fight for justice and press freedom.
