Over Sixty Lakh in Fake Currency Seized at Guwahati’s ISBT

Guwahati: City police apprehended Hafiz Ali, 27, at Guwahati’s Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at 5 AM on Saturday. Ali, a resident of Sonapur village in Dhemaji district, was caught with a bag containing a whopping ₹60.58 lakh in fake Indian currency notes (FICN).

The accused was attempting to deliver the counterfeit currency to his associates when he was nabbed by the ISBT OP team. Upon searching the bag, authorities recovered 12,116 fake ₹500 currency notes, which were promptly seized in the presence of witnesses.

This significant bust is the latest in a series of crackdowns on counterfeit currency rackets in Guwahati. Recently, police seized over ₹34 lakh in fake notes and arrested two individuals connected to the illegal activity. Another operation led to the seizure of ₹1.5 lakh in fake currency and the arrest of two suspects from Sikkim .

The police have taken the accused and seized articles into custody, and further investigations are underway.
