The Assam Rifles has kicked off the first Assam Rifles Sentinels of the North East Women’s Football Championship 2024. Running from June 30 to July 13, 2024, the tournament includes teams from Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR) Women’s Football Team.
The opening ceremony and initial matches are taking place in Lokra, Sonitpur, with the final match scheduled for July 13 in Laitkor, Shillong. The DGAR Women’s Football Team won the opening match against the Assam Women’s Football Team.
Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Assam, and Oinam Bembem Devi, Padma Shri and Arjuna Awardee, and former captain of India’s Women’s Football Team, attended the opening ceremony.
This championship aims to promote women’s football in Northeast India, encourage teamwork, and empower women through sports.
