Guwahati: A special court has granted bail to Paresh Baishya and Nandeshwar Bora, two personal security officers (PSOs) of late singer Zubeen Garg, in a disproportionate assets case.
The bail was granted by the Special Judge’s Court in the case registered against the two PSOs over allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
According to the court proceedings, the two were granted bail after the investigating police allegedly failed to follow the required procedures during their arrest. The defence argued before the court that proper rules and procedures were not followed while taking the two PSOs into custody.
However, the bail order does not mean that Baishya and Bora will be released from jail.
Both PSOs are also in custody in a separate case related to the death of Zubeen Garg. As that case is still continuing, they will remain in jail despite getting bail in the disproportionate assets case.
The development is therefore limited to the assets case and does not affect their custody in the separate death case.
The case involving disproportionate assets concerns allegations that the two officials possessed property or assets beyond what could be explained through their known sources of income.
The latest court order has provided relief to the two PSOs in the assets case, but their continued custody in the Zubeen Garg death case means they will not walk out of jail immediately.
