Guwahati: Six members of the Assam Legislative Assembly have been nominated to undertake a study tour to Himachal Pradesh to examine the monkey sterilisation programme and other measures adopted by the state to address the growing monkey menace.

According to an official communication issued from Dispur on September 11, the MLAs nominated for the proposed tour are Mrinal Saikia, Rupjyoti Kurmi, Dhiraj Gowala, Prakash Das, Rupesh Gowala and Mridul Dutta.

The nomination was made by the Minister, Parliamentary Affairs Department, following a proposal for the study tour.

The visit is aimed at studying the measures adopted in Himachal Pradesh to control the monkey population, particularly the sterilisation programme, and to examine other approaches that could help address the issue in Assam.

The move comes amid concerns over the monkey menace in different parts of Assam, where human-monkey conflict has emerged as an issue requiring effective management.

The MLAs are expected to study the implementation of the sterilisation programme and other measures in Himachal Pradesh and gain insights that could help in formulating or strengthening measures in Assam.
