Guwahati: After Assam BJP Mahila Morcha President Nilima Devi was inducted into the state cabinet, discussions have started within the party about who will take charge of the women’s wing.
Mahila Morcha General Secretary Purabi Roy is considered a strong contender. However, sources said she may be given a position in a government board or corporation.
The names of BJP State Vice-President Ratna Singh and Dr. Juri Sharma Bordoloi are also being discussed. However, sources said both leaders are more interested in election-related responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the name of Alaka Patowary has also come up in party discussions. She has played important roles in managing Lok Sabha, Assembly and Panchayat election campaigns and has earned the trust of the party leadership.
Patowary has also served as Co-Convenor of the BJP Skill Development Cell for the last ten years.
According to sources, because of her organisational experience and active role in the party, Alaka Patowary is being considered as a possible candidate for the post of Assam BJP Mahila Morcha President.
However, the BJP has not made any official announcement regarding the appointment.
