Guwahati: Assam is set to witness a cabinet expansion on Friday, June 5, with the swearing-in ceremony of new ministers scheduled to be held at 12:45 PM at the Jyoti-Bishnu International Kala Mandir in Guwahati.
The oath-taking ceremony will be conducted in the presence of senior government officials, political leaders, alliance partners, legislators, and other invited dignitaries. The event is expected to be a significant political development for the state government.
Although the Assam government has not yet officially announced the names of the ministers to be inducted, intense speculation is underway in political and administrative circles regarding the likely composition of the expanded cabinet.
According to sources, the probable list of ministers includes Ashok Singhal, Ranoj Pegu, Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Bimal Bora, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Ashwini Rai Sarkar, Bolin Chetia, Tuliram Ronghang, Sushanta Borgohain, Mayur Borgohain and Dharmeswar Konwar.
Sources also suggest that either Krishnendu Paul or Rajdeep Roy could be inducted into the cabinet. Similarly, one among Padma Hazarika and Bhupen Borah is reportedly under consideration for a ministerial berth.
The cabinet expansion assumes added significance as it comes at a crucial political juncture ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Political observers believe the new team could play an important role in strengthening the government’s outreach and organisational strategy in the months ahead.
However, the final shape of the cabinet will become clear only after the official announcement and the swearing-in of the new ministers on Friday.
