Guwahati: Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director of Students’ Welfare and Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell at Gauhati University, has been honoured with the Best Performing MY Bharat–NSS Programme Coordinator Award at the national-level Chintan Shivir held at Indian Institute of Management Shillong on May 29 and 30.
The award was presented by Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Raksha Khadse in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs, MY Bharat and the National Service Scheme (NSS).
Dr. Kakati received the award for his contribution to community service, youth development and social welfare activities in Assam. Under his leadership, the Gauhati University NSS Cell, which oversees more than 156 NSS units, has expanded programmes related to environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, blood donation, health awareness, anti-drug campaigns, plantation drives and rural development.
Dr. Kakati and Gauhati University had earlier received the prestigious National NSS Award from former President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 24, 2021. He was also honoured with the Assam State NSS Award by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the presence of former Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria.
University officials said Dr. Kakati has played an important role in encouraging young people to participate in nation-building and social service activities. His latest recognition has brought pride to Gauhati University and the NSS movement in Assam.
