NFRSA Clinch Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy 2026 Title with Five-Wicket Win Over Guwahati

Guwahati: North Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) emerged champions of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament 2026 (Elite Group) after defeating Guwahati Sports Association by five wickets in the four-day final held at the ACA Stadium.

The tournament was organised by the Assam Cricket Association and hosted by the Guwahati Sports Association.

After winning the toss, NFRSA opted to field first and produced a dominant all-round performance to secure the prestigious title.

Batting first, Guwahati were bowled out for 213 in 84.3 overs in their first innings. Sumit Ghadigaonkar top-scored with a patient 81 off 167 balls, while Saahil Jain contributed 42 off 73 deliveries. Rishav Das added 23 runs and Sumit Kashyap chipped in with 21.

For NFRSA, Abhilash Gogoi starred with the ball, claiming impressive figures of 5 for 58, while Deepak Gohain provided strong support with 3 for 55.

In reply, NFRSA posted 249 in 79.3 overs to take a crucial first-innings lead. Swarupam Purkayastha played a magnificent innings of 143 off 228 balls to anchor the batting lineup. Sibsankar Roy scored 37, while Abhilash Gogoi added a valuable 34 runs.

For Guwahati, Rohit Singh was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 81, while Kunal Sarma and Akash Sengupta picked up two wickets each.

In their second innings, Guwahati managed 194 in 76.3 overs. Sumit Kashyap remained unbeaten on 48, while Rajveer Singh scored 45. Pradyun Saikia also contributed 24 runs.

Swarupam Purkayastha once again delivered with the ball, registering outstanding figures of 5 for 56, while Abhilash Gogoi claimed 3 for 67.

Chasing a target of 159, NFRSA comfortably reached 161 for 5 in 55.2 overs. Sibsankar Roy guided the chase with an unbeaten 59 off 91 balls, while Abhilash Maurya added 26 runs. Swarupam Purkayastha remained unbeaten on 21 to seal the victory for NFRSA.

Rohit Singh picked up two wickets for Guwahati in the final innings.
