An Assamese feature film, Jibonsobi, directed by Mridu Pawan Bora, is set to reach audiences across Australia after being selected for exclusive streaming on the digital platform of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, IFFM365.
The 82-minute film will be available for free streaming from May 15 at 10:00 AEST to June 14 at 22:00 AEST through the IFFM365 platform, which is accessible on Apple TV and Android devices. The film is currently also available as paid content on the Moviesaints platform.
Set in Da-Gaon, a village located in the flood plains of Assam, the film revolves around the lives and friendship of two men, Domboru and Pobin, as they navigate gradual social and cultural changes brought by modernisation.
The story portrays rural life in Northeast India through a slow-paced and realistic narrative, focusing on the changing rhythms of village life over the years. Director Mridu Pawan Bora also appears in the film.
Over the past two years, Jibonsobi has received recognition at several film festivals. The film won the Best Regional Film award at the Cine Dreams International Film Festival in 2024 and Best Story at the Northeast India International Documentary and Film Festival in 2025. It was also selected as a finalist at the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival in 2024.
The selection for IFFM365 marks the film’s first major international digital streaming release and is being viewed as an important step for Assamese and Northeast Indian cinema in reaching wider global audiences.
