Guwahati: Gaurav Gogoi, President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), has strongly criticised the central government over rising prices, saying that the “real phase of price rise has begun” after the elections.
In a Facebook post, Gogoi alleged that the government had provided temporary relief to the public during the election period, but is now gradually increasing the burden on people. He claimed that essential fuel prices are being raised in phases, affecting common citizens.
Referring to Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gogoi said Gandhi had earlier warned that prices of petrol, diesel and other fuel products would go up after April 29. He added that even when international crude oil prices were low, the Centre focused on collecting higher taxes instead of giving relief to the public. Now, with crude prices rising, the burden is being passed on to ordinary people and small businesses, he alleged.
Gogoi also highlighted the recent increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, stating that it has directly affected small traders, shopkeepers, dhaba owners, and the hotel and restaurant sector. He termed the situation as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “policy of surrender,” claiming it has made life more difficult for common people.
He further said that when government policies move away from public welfare, it is the general public that faces the consequences.
