Guwahati: After a long wait by students and guardians, the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2026 were finally declared on Friday. The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) officially announced the results at 10:30 AM. Soon after the declaration, excitement and enthusiasm were seen among students across the state.
According to the board, a total of 4,29,249 students appeared in this year’s HSLC examination, including 1,86,468 boys and 2,42,781 girls. Out of the total candidates, 2,81,701 students successfully passed the examination. The overall pass percentage stands at 65.62 percent.
The statistics released by the board show that 85,189 students secured First Division, while 1,50,167 students passed in Second Division. Additionally, 46,345 students obtained Third Division in the examination. Among the successful candidates, 3,983 students secured Distinction, 13,681 obtained Star marks, and 99,062 students achieved Letter marks in various subjects.
District-wise performance also showed notable variation. Dima Hasao district recorded the highest pass percentage at 88.23 percent, which many have described as a positive sign for education in the hill district. On the other hand, Cachar district recorded the lowest pass percentage at 49.13 percent, indicating the need for greater focus on education in the district. Among other districts, Sivasagar recorded a pass percentage of 84.08 percent, while Dibrugarh achieved 78.46 percent.
This year’s top position in the state has been secured by Jyotirmoy Das, a student of Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Bajali district, bringing pride to his school and district. Akanksha Bhuyan, a student of Ambikagiri Rai Choudhury Jatiya Vidyalaya, Hawajan in Biswanath district, secured the second position.
The third position was secured by Farah Islam, a student of Little Flower School, Dibrugarh, while Surajit Akhtar of Little Flower School, Nalbari secured the fourth position. Educationists have praised the students for their dedication and hard work, stating that their achievements will inspire many others across the state.
Notably, 4,38,564 students had originally registered for the examination, but 9,315 candidates did not appear for various reasons. The board also informed that 135 candidates were expelled during the examination for unfair means.
Following the declaration of the results, students were able to check their results through the official website of the board and other online platforms. A large number of students and guardians were seen accessing the results through mobile phones and computers.
With the announcement of the results, a new phase of academic life begins for many students. Those who have successfully passed will now move forward to pursue Higher Secondary education. The Assam State School Education Board congratulated all successful candidates and encouraged those who could not pass this time not to lose hope, stating that hard work and perseverance will certainly bring success in the future.
