Guwahati, May 30: The Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat has relieved 12 retired officers and staff members who had been re-employed on contractual assignments after retirement.
According to an official order issued by the Secretariat, the employees were relieved from their duties with effect from the afternoon of May 29, 2026, as per the direction of Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Dass.
The relieved personnel include retired officers and staff who had been re-employed in various branches of the Assembly Secretariat as Officers on Special Duty (OSDs), coordinators, gatekeepers and office attendants.
Those relieved are Ranjit Kumar Sarmah, Pankaj Kumar Sarma, Dhanajit Talukdar, Tarini Kanta Swargiary, Sewali Devi, Kabi Ram Haloi, Kuladhar Kaman, Samir Das, Madhab Talukdar, Bhaben Pegu, Biswajit Shome and Dilli Ram Sarma.
They had been serving in different capacities, including OSDs to various committees and branches, coordinators and support staff, following their retirement from regular government service.
The decision comes days after the Assembly Secretariat initiated administrative changes, including the replacement of the Assembly Secretary. Officials said the contractual appointments have now been discontinued following the Speaker’s directive.
