Jagiroad: On Wednesday, July 10, a wild elephant was tragically died after being struck by a train near Jagiroad in Morigaon district, Assam. The incident occurred at 6:20 AM when the tusker was crossing the railway tracks in the Jagiroad-Aujuri stretch and was hit by the Guwahati-bound train.

According to a media report, the area where the accident happened is not a designated elephant corridor. The ongoing floods in Assam have forced many animals to leave their inundated habitats in search of food and higher ground. Reports indicate that the floods have claimed the lives of 163 animals in the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve alone.
