Guwahati: Shorjun Hanse has been named the interim General Secretary of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) following the resignation of Shankar Jyoti Baruah. The decision was made during AASU’s Executive meeting held in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Hanse, who previously served as Assistant General Secretary, will hold the position until the Union’s next General Convention.Baruah’s resignation came after allegations of harassment were made against him by a student, who claimed he deceived her with false promises of marriage, engaged in emotional and physical abuse.
Amid growing controversy, Baruah voluntarily stepped down from both the post of General Secretary of AASU on September 12. AASU has expressed its commitment to addressing the issue responsibly while ensuring due process.
