Guwahati: After a two-year battle with a brain tumor, Professor Chandan Mahanta, aged 61, passed away at his residence at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati on Tuesday.

Professor Mahanta was one of the earliest members of IIT Guwahati and made significant contributions to the academic and scientific community. He held positions as the Dean of Students Affairs, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, and the Center for Environment during his tenure.
