Guwahati: Today, people of Assam mourns the loss of famous singer Sudakshina Sarma, who passed away at the age of 85. Sudakshina Sarma, sister of the legendary singer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, had been unwell due to her age, according to doctors.
She was admitted to the hospital on June 23 for Aspiration Pneumonia with Sepsis and Pressure sores, but her health worsened despite medical efforts. Sudakshina Sarma’s demise has saddened the music community and the people of Assam.
After Sudakshina Sarma’s passing, her family selflessly donated her eyes to bring vision to those in need.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences to the family and recognized Sudakshina Sarma’s valuable contributions to Assamese music. Her soulful songs will be remembered and cherished by all.
This loss is irreplaceable, and Sudakshina Sarma’s music will forever remain in the hearts of the people. May her soul rest in peace.
