Purabi Dairy Expands Dairy Network in Eastern Assam with New Bulk Milk Cooler at Dhemaji
Dhemaji: Purabi Dairy has set up a new Bulk Milk Cooler (BMC) at Kulajan in Dhemaji district. The newly installed BMC, with a capacity of 3,000 litres per day, will initially benefit around 500 dairy farmers from 25 villages across Sissiborgaon and Silapathar areas.
The project has been implemented by the East Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. (EAMUL) — a part of the Purabi Dairy network under West Assam Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Ltd. (WAMUL) — to strengthen the cooperative dairy model in the region.
The Kulajan BMC was inaugurated by Pradan Baruah, Member of Parliament, Lakhimpur, and Bhubon Pegu, MLA, Jonai, in the presence of Rahul Suresh Javir, Deputy Commissioner, Dhemaji, and Hitesh Ch. Ray, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dhemaji.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pritam Kishore Saikia, Managing Director, EAMUL, said,
“The milk revolution has begun in Eastern Assam since 2023. EAMUL started collecting milk from dairy farmers in Dhemaji district earlier this year. With the new BMC at Kulajan, we can now procure milk from across the Sissiborgaon to Silapathar area. Next month, we will also commission a 3,000-litre BMC at Gogamukh and a 2,000-litre BMC at Laimekuri near Jonai. This expanding infrastructure will ensure that farmers across the region have a reliable and profitable market for their produce.”
He further added that farmers will receive continuous assistance to manage their dairy cattle scientifically.
The event was attended by Jolly Das, Assistant Commissioner; Dr. Girin Saikia, District Veterinary Officer; Tridib Haloi, i/c ADDO; Chayanika Hazarika, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Dhemaji; Shri Narayan Chandra Ghosh, Group Head (Procurement & Input), EAMUL; and several other dignitaries.
