Guwahati: In a move set to benefit households across Assam and the Northeast, Purabi Dairy has announced a reduction in prices of its popular dairy products, passing on the full benefit of the GST rate cuts announced at the 56th GST Council meeting.

North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), which markets Purabi products manufactured by West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL), said that the new prices will be effective from September 22, 2025.

As per the GST reforms, paneer and UHT milk have been fully exempted from GST, ice-cream will now attract only 5% GST instead of 18%, and ghee has been placed in the 5% slab, down from 12%. This means the entire Purabi product range now falls under either the nil or lowest GST slab.

New Prices of Purabi Products (Effective Sept 22)

  • Purabi Paneer (200g): ₹92 (earlier ₹95)
  • Purabi Ghee (500ml): ₹420 (earlier ₹450)
  • Purabi Flavoured Milk: ₹25 (earlier ₹30)
  • Purabi Smart UHT 1L: ₹74 (price reduced)
  • Purabi Ice-Cream: Reduced prices across all variants

Speaking on the price reduction, S.K. Parida, Managing Director, WAMUL, said, “This progressive move will make dairy products more affordable and accessible, creating higher demand while empowering farmers and driving sustainable growth of the dairy industry.”

S.B. Bose, Managing Director of NEDFL, added that the company is fully committed to passing on the benefits to consumers, ensuring that the reform directly translates into affordability.

The price cut is expected to boost demand and directly benefit thousands of dairy farmers associated with WAMUL and EAMUL, aligning with Purabi’s mission of strengthening rural communities and delivering quality dairy to every household.
