Mumbai City FC secured a 2-0 victory over NorthEast United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25. This win ended NorthEast United FC’s eight-match unbeaten run and helped Mumbai climb to fourth place with 31 points.

NorthEast United FC started strong, creating early chances. In the 8th minute, Macarton Nickson crossed the ball to Alaaeddine Ajaraie, but his header went over the post. Five minutes later, Ajaraie attempted another shot from the edge of the box but missed to the left.

The Highlanders kept pushing forward with counter-attacks. In the 26th minute, Mohammed Ali Bemammer set up Ajaraie inside the box, but he missed the target again. Two minutes later, Ajaraie provided a slick pass to Nestor Albiach, but his shot lacked power, making it an easy save for Phurba Lachenpa.

Despite NorthEast United FC’s aggressive attacks, Mumbai City FC took the lead in the 41st minute. Brandon Fernandes delivered a brilliant cross to Bipin Singh, who scored with a powerful header into the top right corner.

In the second half, Mumbai City FC stayed dominant. Lallianzuala Chhangte created a chance for Hmingthanmawia Ralte in the 47th minute, but his shot was saved. NorthEast United FC kept attacking, with Nickson and Jithin MS trying their luck, but Mumbai’s defense stood strong.

In the final moments of the match, Mumbai City FC sealed the win. Tiri set up a perfect pass for Lallianzuala Chhangte, who calmly placed the ball into the bottom right corner in injury time (90+2’), confirming Mumbai’s victory.
