Guwahati : Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) fined a resident of Lokhra, Garbhanga, Rs. 1 lakh for blocking a drain. GMC Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal shares the receipt on Twitter. Blocked drains cause artificial floods in Guwahati, affecting citizens annually.
Dahal wrote on twitter Please don’t block drainages. It floods the locality and is very expensive to clean afterwards.
Otherwise we will be compelled to penalise!”
It is worth noting that the issue of artificial floods has been a recurring problem in Guwahati. Blocked drains are identified as one of the main contributors to the annual flooding that affects the city.
